Although we've been working hard and are pretty confident about the project, there's no way we're finishing the game at the end of the month. I originally intended this project to be a small game, but development is going great and it would be a shame to smash it into a tiny release. There is no official deadline, but it's reasonable to expect it sometime before the middle of November. The engine is very solid and we're going to put our heart and soul into the design part, so it will be well worth the wait.
The game is being designed using this as a loose guide:
"Less talk, more rock"
I'm currently taking a class in general design and a lot of what I'm learning can easily apply to game design. The goal of this project is to make the game fun not by following any "game theory" but by taking a human approach to creating an interesting world that you play in. It WILL follow traditional game mechanics and it WILL be a game with cleverly made goals, rewards, appropriate punishment, and interesting deviations from standard platform games, but it will not use them as a shallow way to sell the game. The thing with game design is that it takes everything into account: gameplay, graphics, sound, music, atmosphere, and story. If you neglect even just one of these then your game will always fall short.
